Now that Spring has finally sprung, it’s time to dust off your mountain bikes and start off the upcoming biking season with some good ol’ fashioned fun! Come out and support your local mountain bike club and the WATA, this Saturday, April 30th, in downtown Waterbury. As an added bonus to this event, local sponsoring restaurants are donating 5% of their draft sales all day to WATA.
Head to The Reservoir Restaurant & Taproom, Blackback Pub and the Prohibition Pig, to enjoy special beers to be tapped from Allagash Brewing, Lawson’s Finest Liquids, Hill Farmstead Brewery, Prohibition Pig, Big Tree, Frost Brewery, Foley Brothers, Bissell Brothers, Zero Gravity, Four Quarters, Fiddlehead, Oxbow, and Foundation Brewing Co.
The Blackback Pub will open at 11am and will feature Allagash Brewing’s beer the ‘Northman’, which is a French farmhouse aged in Calvados barrels for 4 months. Aromas of toffee, toasted grains, and candied apples and followed by flavors of apple brandy, vanilla and Graham crackers.
The Reservoir Restaurant & Taproom will also open at 11am, and will feature Allagash’s ‘Helena’, which is modeled after a traditional Flemish- Style Sour Red. It opens with aromas of apple and pear, imparts flavors of caramel and fruit, and is followed by a clean, assertive tartness. They brew Helena with Special B, Munich, Raw Wheat, and our 2-row blend. Hopped with Hallertau, and ferment this beer with their house yeast strain in an oak foudre and finish with Lactobacillus and Pediococcus. Its clean fruity flavors and tartness make it an excellent base for many of Allagash’s sour fruited beers.
Head to the Prohibition Pig at 11:30am to sip on Allagash Brewing’s ‘Uncommon Crow’, an American Wild Ale, that is a sour/wild beer brewed with raspberries. This beer is amber in color with light head. The aroma is berries, grapes, oak, and bready malts, and the taste has dry tartness and tannic oak with some berry accents. Tasty and drinkable. What more could you need?
